Great Britain has always had a respectable record in Olympic rowing, except from 1952 to 1972 (inclusive) when all we managed was one silver (the Coxless Four, at Tokyo in 1964).
We won two silvers in 1976, and a silver and two bronzes in 1980. But it was the gold medal won by Steve Redgrave and his crewmates in the Coxed Four at Los Angeles (1984) that really revived British interest in Olympic rowing.
The medal haul in Tokyo (actually in 2021) was disappointing compared with the previous few occasions.
Another interesting fact about Olympic rowing is that there were no competitions in 1896 due to bad weather. (In Athens ... who'd have thought it?)
